Intro

BuzzOff lets you temporarily turn off your ringer until a certain amount of time passes, or if you move a certain distance. It automatically turns it back on once the conditions are met (time expired or you've moved).

This is useful in case you are going to watch a 2 hour movie, you can just turn your ringer off for 2 hours and buzzoff will turn it back on when the movie is finished. Or if you are at a funeral that could last for an indeterminate amount of time, you could use the location based appraoch and set it to turn your ringer back on once you leave the area.

Putting your phone in silent or silent+vibrate mode

Using BuzzOff is very simple. You start the application, and as long as your ringer is not ALREADY turned off, you will see the main screen. First you will need to decide the exact silent mode to use temporarily, and the exact ringer mode to use once the time has expired or you have moved:

  • Silent mode — do you want the phone to be completely silent (eg, to not even vibrate) or should the ringer be turned off yet still vibrate? This is how the phone will behave before the timeout expires or you move far enough.
  • Ringer restore mode — once the timeout expires or you move far enough, what ringer mode should be restored? It defaults to your CURRENT ringer mode (eg ringer or ringer + vibrate), so you probably don't need to mess with this.

Next you must decide how BuzzOff should decide to turn the ringer back on. It must be one or the other, you cannot use both.

  • After a certain amount of time has passed
  • After you have moved a certain distance

Each of these options will popup a dialog which allows you to fine tune the settings, for example to set it to go back to ringer mode after 8 hours has passed, or after you have moved 2 miles.

If you make a mistake, simply hit the radio button again and the dialog will popup again.

Once you are done, you can hit the OK button, and BuzzOff will show a brief confirmation popup that says something like:

"Phone set to silent mode for 1 hour"

Coundown Screen

After putting the phone in silent mode with BuzzOff, there will be an icon on the taskbar that indicates the phone is in silent mode (a musical note with a line through it, or a shaking phone if you have vibrate enabled).

If you re-open BuzzOff after setting silent mode with BuzzOff, you will see a "countdown screen", which either shows the amount of time pending until the ringer goes back on, or the amount of distance you must move.
